The forest department personnel rescued a leopardess that had entered a house at Kyathanahalli near Hampapura in HD Kote taluk on Friday morning.

The leopardess had strayed into the house belonging to Basavashetty. Upon hearing the roar of the wild cat in the morning, the family members ran out of fear and locked the house. They alerted the Forest department, whose personnel rushed to the spot with veterinarian Dr Nagaraj and sharpshooter Akram. The leopard was rescued after it was tranquillised.

Speaking to DH, Dr Nagaraj said that the leopard was suffering from severe infection in the neck as it was caught in a snare. The animal was very weak due to starvation. The forest officials removed the snare and shifted the leopard to Mysuru Zoo.

Two people, who tried to have a close glimpse of the leopard in the house, suffered injuries.
