Mahila Samskriti Utsav in Chikkamagaluru

Kannada and Culture Department Director Dayanand said Mysuru divisional-level Mahila Samskriti Utsav wil be organised at Kuvempu Kalamandira in town from April 22 to 24. 

Speaking to mediapersons here on Thursday, he said the Utsav should have been organised in 2013-14. “The festival aims to provide a platform for artistes to showcase their talent. Even college students can take part in the festival. A painting exhibition related to women will be held on April 22,” he said. 

Dayananda said singer B K Sumithra will inaugurate the procession of folk art troupes to be taken out from taluk office premises to Kuvempu Kalamandira.

 Minister for Kannada and Culture Umashree will inaugurate the Mahila Samskriti Utsav. Writer Kamala Hampana will deliver the keynote address. Writer Vaidehi will take part in the valedictory ceremony of the Utsav. More than 300 folk artistes from Mysuru, Mandya, Chamarajanagar, Hassan, Madikeri, Chikkamagaluru, Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts are taking part in the festival, he added. 

To a query on Zilla Utsav, he said the department will provide financial assistance if the district administration comes forward to hold it.

He said a slogan and logo competition for the Mahila Samskriti Utsav will be held.

 The winners will be given Rs 10,000. The slogan and logo should reach the Shanthinikethan Chitrakalamahavidyalaya in Chikkamagaluru on or before April 12, he added.
