Mild tremors felt in parts of Kodagu

Mild tremors were felt in parts of Kodagu and Dakshina Kannada on Monday afternoon, creating panic among the residents.

Suntikoppa, Somwarpet, Shanthalli, parts of Madikeri in Kodagu district experienced mild tremor at 12.50 pm. Tremor rattled furniture and utensils, forcing the residents to come out of their houses in fear. The Richter scale at Harangi reservoir did not capture the tremor.

Several villages, including Madappady and Kollamogru, in Sullia taluk of Dakshina Kannada also experienced tremors between 12.50 pm and 1.10 pm.

Principal Secretary, Revenue, Gangaram Baderiya, said that there have been reports of microtremor in parts of Udupi and Kodagu districts. He attributed the occasional tremors to the geology of the area and added that it happens when heavy showers lash the region.
