The Public Works and District in-charge Minister Dr H C Mahadevappa on Monday went on a city tour inspecting various projects being carried out by the state government in the heritage city.

The minister, along with MLA Vasu, visited construction sites of Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research on KRS Road, Maharani’s College-Hostel on Valmiki Road, Guest House on the premises of Jaladarshini Guest House, Dr B R Ambedkar Bhavan on Krishna Vilas Road, Ambedkar statue in front of Town Hall, new deputy commissioner’s office on the premises of German Press and the widening of Male Mahadeshwara Road. He also visited Chamundi Hill.

Mahadevappa directed the officials and the contractors to complete the works within the stipulated time.

Speaking to reporters later, Mahadevappa said, the construction works of 350-bed Jayadeva Hospital on 15 acres of land would be completed by December and the hospital will start functioning by April, 2018, he said.

Mahadevappa said, the state government has taken up several works like providing drinking water facility, developing the city roads and augmenting the facilities in health sector in the city at a cost of Rs 2,000 crore.

‘Submit DPR on heritage bldgs’

The minister said that an expert committee has suggested reconstruction of Devaraja Market and Lansdowne Building. If the authorities submit a detailed project report, the state government would take necessary measures.

Speaking about the development activities atop Chamundi Hill, the minister said, no major works are taken atop the hill. Only work related to parking space is on, he said. Suitable action would be initiated if any illegal structures are found atop the hill, he warned.

On a query about BJP state president B S Yeddyurappa and party leaders having food at Dalits houses, Mahadevappa asked, why are the BJP leaders not highlighting their visit to the houses of Iyengars and Brahmins.

Replying to the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Regulation of Livestock Market) Rules, 2017, Mahadevappa said,  the Prevention of Cow Slaughter and Cattle Preservation Act, 1964, is in place in the state. BJP is playing with the emotions of the people for the sake of power. The move is a clear violation of the people’s rights. He suggested the Union government to reconsider the bill as it affects the farmers.
