Dharwad MP Prahlad Joshi has said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would lay the foundation stone for the construction of a permanent building for the IIT-Dharwad during the third week of January.

Speaking to media persons in Dharwad on Monday, the former BJP state president said, "Apart from laying the foundation stone for IIT-Dharwad, Narendra Modi will also kickstart campaigning for Lok Sabha elections in Karnataka from Dharwad."

The new building for IIT-Dharwad will come up at a cost of Rs 3,000 crore, of which already Rs 1,200 crore has been released, he said.

This apart, the Bureau Of Indian Standards (BIS) regional office will be inaugurated in next 15 days at Hubballi by Union Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution Minister Ramvilas Paswan.

The Centre has given its consent to construct a branch of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Karnataka. The state government had earlier sent a proposal shortlisting three districts - Dharwad, Ramanagara, and Vijayapura - for AIIMS unit, Joshi said.

He added, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, however, has sent a revised proposal asking the Centre to establish AIIMS at Ramanagara. But, the legislators from North Karnataka will revolt if the AIIMS is not sanctioned either to Dharwad or Vijayapura, Joshi warned.
