Mysuru literature festival on June 4

Mysuru Literary Forum Charitable Trust and Book Clubs–2015, in association with Deccan Herald, will organise Mysuru Literature Festival -2017 at Wind Chimes, Nazarbad, here on June 4.

The festival aims at promoting reading habits among people. Member of erstwhile royal family Pramoda Devi Wadiyar will inaugurate the festival at 9.30 am. While Jnanpith awardee Girish Karnad will deliver the keynote address, journalist K B Ganapathy will release the festival logo. Former Union minister P Chidambaram will deliver the valedictory address at 5.15 pm the same day.

About 25 authors, including, Vivek Shanbhag, Vanamala Vishwanath, Aroon Raman, Mahesh Rao, Vasudhendra, Vikram Sampath, Zac O’Yeah, Aditya Sinha, Air Marshal Nanda Cariappa, Manu Pillai, Prithvi Datta Chandra Shobhi, Suresh Menon and Yamini Muthanna among others will participate in the festival.

Seven panel discussions - four in English and three in Kannada languages - have been organised. Discussions will be held on the topics ‘royal biography’, ‘cricket’, ‘crime fiction’, ‘defence stories’, and others. Former international cricketer Javagal Srinath will participate in the session on cricket, along with Suresh Menon and R Kaushik from Wisden India.

Kannada writer Vasudendra will speak on his book ‘Mohana Swamy’. In addition to this, contemporary writers from Mysuru will display their works. Indira Bruner Chandrasekhar of ‘Out Of Print’, online journal, will be the curator of the literature festival.

According to Pamela Sanath, one of the organisers of the festival, “Mysuru, a cultural capital of the state, is playing a silent role in this direction. Book Clubs-2015 came into existence two years ago with about 100  members and a large number of the members have been attending literary festivals organised in different parts of the country like the Jaipur, Bengaluru.

The members have strongly felt that they should come together to conduct a Literature Festival and thus organising the festival in Mysuru, she said.
