Mysuru rail division records a marginal dip in freight traffic

South Western Railway Divisional Manager Atul Gupta has said that despite a lot of efforts to boost freight traffic, the division’s achievement has been less as compared to the previous year.

Addressing railway employees during the 62nd Railway Week here on Wednesday Gupta said the division had transported 4.815 million tonne of originating freight in the financial year 2016-17 while it was 5.038 million tonne in the previous year. The overall revenue of the division was Rs.608.97 crore. The total number of originating passengers was 4.82 crore, he said.

Gupta said that 35 level crossing gates in the division had been eliminated in 2016-17. He listed various passenger amenity works executed in the division such as escalators, lifts and subway at Mysuru, development of Kabakaputtur station under Adarsh station norms, extension of platform/platform shelters, provision of Point Of Sale (PoS) machines at 39 locations to ease rush in ticket counters and free high speed WiFi at Mysuru station among others.

Gupta said the Innovation Cell of the division has been successful in rolling out 11 schemes with eight of them already having been implemented. The major innovation being deployment of drones for survey of vulnerable 55 km ghat section from Sakaleshpur to Subramanya Road, he said.

Employees from different branches of the division were honoured for their outstanding contribution during the financial year 2016-17. A total of 109 individual and 13 group awards were distributed. Cultural programmes were also organised on the occasion. Additional Divisional Railway Manager P Ram was also present.
