JOIN USMysuru South police station to undergo image makeover
In a move to make police stations and the personnel ‘people-friendly’, the Mysuru district police have come up with an idea to develop a library, a park and other facilities for the public.
The district police have already developed some facilities in a few sta2qtions and now, Mysuru South police station, located in Nazarbad in the city, is getting ready to become people-friendly. The facilities can be utilised not only by visitors to the police station, but also by common people.
The move is to make police stations and personnel people-friendly. The library will have books related to legal assistance, story books, novels, books on personalities, etc. In addition, Kannada and English daily newspapers and weekly and monthly magazines will be made available in the library. The library can be utilised even by common people during their free time. The works on the library have commenced and it will be completed within two-months, said Mysuru South Police Inspector Gopalakrishna.
Apart from the library, a park with play area for children, has been planned. The Inspector said that in many family dispute cases, the parties bring their children to the station.
“Sometimes we are forced to question the parties in front of the children which can have an adverse effect on the young minds. If we have a park on the station premises, the children can be sent to the park area where they can enjoy games. The park will also have many toys. The park will be developed once the works of the compound is completed within the next two months,” he said.
In addition to the park and library, police are also planning to construct a public toilet. In many stations, toilet facility is available only for police staff and the accused also use the same but the stations have no toilet facility for visitors. According to the police, many times visitors to the station spend long hours. It is especially difficult for elderly people and those with medical conditions. Thus they can use the facilities in the station instead of waiting till their works are completed.
With the additional facilities, the mindset of the people about the police department and personnel is expected to change and the style of functioning of police is likely to become more effective. When people and police mingle with each other, it will help develop a healthy relationship between them, said a police personnel.
