'No drinking water problem in State except Kalaburagi, Raichur'

Urban Development Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake, on Friday, said that except Kalaburagi and Raichur districts, no other town in the state was facing drinking water problem.

Chairing a progress review meeting on various developmental activities at the Deputy Commissioner’s office, here, Sorake said, “The state government has released Rs 7.59 crore to tackle drinking water problem and Rs 1.59 crore has been provided to Hassan district.”
He asked the officials to instal water meters at houses to manage water in an efficient manner.

Speaking about various developmental activities, the minister said that till now, the government had released Rs 62 crore for Hassan City Municipal Council.

The minister urged the officials to visit drought-hit areas without delay and asked them to take up emergency works immediately. No officer need to wait for permission from higher officers to implement emergency works, he said.

Highlighting ‘Swachh Bharat’ mission, he said that the city was in the fifth place and it should be at the top of the list. He directed the officers to take measures to ensure effective waste management. He expressed dissatisfaction over tax collection in Hassan city and told the officers to impose penalty on illegal structures.

‘No application received’

Stressing on ‘Gruha Bhagya’ scheme, the minister said, “The government provides Rs 7 lakh to construct a house, but the authorities have not received a single application from Hassan district.”

MLC M A Gopalaswamy, MLA H S Prakash, Additional Deputy Commissioner K M Janaki, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer R Venkatesh and others were present.
