Moornadu-Napoklu link road is submerged for the last one week, hindering the movement of vehicles. As the buses have remained off the road, the people of Hoddur village have been using an alternative route to reach the town.
Electrical appliances, electric metre board, television and other equipment in about 20 houses in Napoklu Gram Panchayat limit, have been charred due to a short circuit on Saturday. A loss of lakhs of rupees has occurred.
Even though people contacted the CESC and asked the staff to cut the electric supply, the authorised personnel did not respond at the right time, said villagers.
It is said that the short-circuit occurred after the express power line on Napoklu-Kakkabbe route came in contact with the ordinary power line following gusty winds.
Congress leader P M Khasim has urged the CESC officials to provide compensation to the victims. CESC junior engineer Harish said that a report will be sent to the authorities concerned after a spot inspection.
Excessive rain has resulted in the outbreak of fruit rot disease in coffee. Coffee plants in several plantations have been affected.
Roads damaged
Except for the concrete roads, all other roads have been badly damaged in Madikeri. As a result, vehicle riders are having a hard time.
The main road close to the private bus stand can cave-in. Also, the road opposite the post office on Mysuru road is on the verge of a cave-in. Unscientific building work on the left side of the road is said to be the reason. Locals say that the City Municipal Council has not taken any preventive measure. Unscientific UGD works have also affected the roads.
