The Cabinet sub-committee on drought for Mysuru, Mandya and Chamarajanagar districts is likely to submit its report to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah either in the month of May or June.

The sub-committee, led by Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T B Jayachandra, consists of Cooperation Minister H S Mahadev Prasad, PWD Minister Dr H C Mahadevappa and Food and Civil Supplies Minister Dinesh Gundurao.

The sub-committee, during its visit to Hampapura in HD Kote taluk, on Tuesday, was convinced that apart from drinking water, fodder for livestock was another problem faced by farmers. In Hunsur, the members visited Benkipura, Gohalli, Dodda Beechanahalli, Chikkabeechanahalli and Ankanahalli.

The students at Government Primary School, Gohalli, who were waiting for midday meals, following the government order to provide midday meals to students even during summer vacation in drought-hit taluks, were served lunch by the elected representatives. Both Mahadev Prasad and Zilla Panchayat member Gowramma Somashekar served food to the students.

The ministers also dedicated a pure drinking water unit built at a cost of Rs 17 lakh at Doddabeechanahalli. They sought information on the prevailing drought condition, with a group of daily wagers who were working under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). The ministers also launched work on restoring the 100-year-old Mahadeshwara Kalyani (pond) at Ankanahalli.
