Republic Day celebrated with national spirit in Mysuru

The 69th Republic Day was celebrated in the city in a grand manner, on Friday.

PWD and District in-charge Minister H C Mahadevappa, who unfurled the national flag at the Torch Light Parade Grounds in Bannimantap, spoke about the Indian Constitution. He said, Dr B R Ambedkar played an important role in drafting the Constitution and thus Indian Constitutional Supremacy, Parliamentary Supremacy, Judicial Supremacy, are its hallmarks.

"We have failed to implement a few recommendations such as addressing the glaring inequalities, need for strong opposition, equality in law and administration, observance of Constitutional morality, no tyranny of the majority over the minority, moral order in the society and strong presence of public conscience mentioned in the Constitution," Mahadevappa said.

Even after 68 years of Republic, atrocities against deprived classes, women, Dalits and minorities; and intolerance exists, he lamented.

Awards

Mahadevappa presented 'Sarvottama Seva' award to six government officials for their distinguished service. Mysuru District Industries Centre Joint Director Ramakrishnegowda, Deputy Director for Tourism H P Janardhan, Mysuru City Corporation Revenue Officer Arasu Kumari, veterinarian Dr D N Nagaraj, Deputy Tahsildar of Chikkaiana Chatra hobli S R Rampriyan and Nagaraj of Mysuru District Treasury were honoured.

Similarly, Mohammed Shafiullah and Dharanesh were feted with 'Jeeva Rakshaka' award for helping accident victims.

On the occasion, school students from various institutions performed dance for patriotic songs.

Zilla Panchayat president Nayeema Sulthana, Mayor B Bhagyavathi, Deputy Chairman of the Legislative Council Marithibbegowda, Deputy Commissioner D Randeep, ZP CEO P Shivashankara, and Additional Deputy Commissioner T Yogeesh were present.

SWR celebrates R-Day

Mysuru Division of the South Western Railway (SWR) celebrated the Republic Day. Railway Manager Atul Gupta unfurled the national flag in a ceremony attended by Railway employees and their family members.

Gupta said, Mysuru Division has been playing an important role in providing rapid, reliable and cost-effective transportation. He highlighted the measures taken in recent times to ensure the safety of the rail users.

SSJNM celebrates R-Day

Members of Sri Sumathinath Jain Navyuvak Mandel (SSJNM) celebrated the day at Bal Bhavan, here, and had arranged food for more than 6,000 people, including schoolchildren, police and the general public.

District in-charge Minister H C Mahadevappa, City Police Commissioner Dr A Subrahmanyeswara Rao, and Mayor Bhagyavathi took part in the celebrations.

Committee members Sanjay Chouhan, Amit Jain, Anand Salecha, Kamlesh Kawad, Lalith Rathod, Tejraj Jain, Suresh Jain, Bharat Jain, Amit Rathod, and Mahendra Jain were present.
