Steps for medical college will be taken: Kerala CM

Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said hurdles for establishmnet  of government medical college in Ukkinadka, Badiadka, will be cleared within a week and the work on the college building will be accelrated.

Speaking after inaugurating the third district level public interaction programme in Kasargod on Thursday, he said when the government took over, five  colleges were operational.

11 new medical colleges were sanctioned. The fiscal obstruction to the establishment of government medical college in Kasargod has been cleared. Rs 68 crore has been sanctioned  through Nabard, towards the establishment of the college.

Also, Rs 25 crore from the district development funds, will be utilised towards the establishment of the college, as per the recommendation by Prabhakaran Commission.
About 60 acres of land has been earmarked for the college. The work on the college will be started soon, the CM said.

Chandy further said the ‘Karunya’ scheme, meant for endosulfan victims, will be extended to the residents of Kasargod.

Earlier, the patients from Kasargod who underwent treatment for cancer, kidney disorder and cardiac surgery, in were deprived of the facility, he said and added that a scheme which guarantees free life-long treatment for haemophilia patients, will be implemented soon.

Pensions are being provided by the government, to the patients suffering from mental disorders such as Autism and Cerebral palsy. Also assistance is being provided to their dependents and assistants. A scheme which ensured life long privileges to these patients will be introduced soon, the CM added.

As a part of the ‘Saphalyam’ scheme, meant for endosulfan patients, 100 houses will be built in the district, the CM said.

A comprehensive survey on site less will be conducted to implement a scheme in this regard. The government is considering the possibility of providing loan waiver for endo victims, for the loans above Rs two lakhs, the CM said.

The government has chalked out a scheme towards the rehabilitation of endosulfan victims and ordered the officials concerned to identify a land for the same.

He also assured of building taluk hospitals in the newly formed taluks Manjeshwar and Vellarikundu. The work on Regulator cum bridge meant for the supply of drinking water in Kasargod and surrounding areas, near Muliyar Bavikere will be started soon.

113 people in Chimeni village will be provided with title deeds. Also, steps will be taken to build an indoor stadium in Kasargod government college, he assured.
