JOIN USSWR to make Mysore division unmanned level crossings free
The authorities have drawn a plan to bring down the numbers- from the existing 338 such level crossings to zero in the next five years.
The target for the current fiscal is set at 70 and it would be a reality with the railways ready with alternate measures, Divisional Railway Manager, SWR, B B Verma told media here on Friday.
Unveiling the alternate measures, the officer said, the first will be to lay thrust on managing the gate, second to close the same only after seeking the opinion of district administration, third to divert the traffic laying a road beside the track and fourth and last to convert the gates into limited height subways.
The officer said it’s a decision taken by the Railway Board taking cognisance of 17,000 such crossings across the nation. He was happy to note that in the previous year, no untoward incidents were reported at the crossings. To a query, the officer said that the multi-functional complex will be opened in next two to three months. The tender process to fix the agency to cater the services is underway.
Most importantly, all the passenger- friendly amenities that have been either improved or launched in Mysore station will be replicated in other stations of the division like Hassan, Davangere, Shimoga and others.
For platform tickets
On the new facilities ahead, platform ticket vending machines with integrated services will be introduced soon. The earlier machine was restricted only to issue tickets. To offer the service users more benefits, information regarding the services and others will be made available along with the tickets, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Dr Anup Dayanand Sadhu said.
