President forced to record proceedings and pass resolution

Town Municipal Council (TMC) president Meenakshi was forced to direct the officials to record the proceedings of the earlier meeting, held on October 10, and pass a resolution seeking Lokayukta probe into the allegation against the earlier administrator Ramesh, as even vice-president Doreswamy supported the agitating councillors on Thursday.

The councillors started protesting right from the beginning of the general meeting, on Thursday, and expressed suspicion about the intention of the president in not recording the proceedings and not forwarding the resolution for a probe to the Deputy Commissioner, even though it was passed unanimously. The councillors rushed to the table of the president and staged a dharna. Before the election to the TMC, as the term of the earlier body had expired, the State government had appointed an administrator for its smooth functioning.

Doreswamy pointed out that even District in-charge Minister V Srinivas Prasad had agreed that the allegations against Ramesh seemed to be true and the issue should be probed. Councillor Mahadevaswamy said, Ramesh had permitted construction of a multi-storey community hall on the Chamarajanagar Bypass Road, just 200 metres from Srikanteshwara temple, even though such buildings are not allowed in a radius of 300 metres around the temple.

Chief Officer Karibasavaiah tried to clarify that the site of the community hall was 305 metres away from the temple, but the councillors silenced him by stating that the distance should be measured by global positioning system and not with tape by road.
