Water scarcity hits Chikmagalur

Tankers being used to supply water: CMC chief

Speaking to presspersons on Saturday, he said the presence of algae in the pipes which supply water from Here Kolale has affected the flow of water, thus affecting four wards. Moreover, the erratic supply of power is also affecting the water supply. Water supply has been affected at Srinivas Nagara in Rampura, Gowrikaluve and Ramanahalli ward. If silt is removed from Herekolale kere, then water can be supplied without any problem. The CMC has already written letter to Minor Irrigation, to undertake the work on desilting immediately.

The CMC has already undertaken the work of eviction to facilitate the I G Road widening. Kencharaya temple development committee has agreed to shift the temple from I G Road.

He said the CMC will call for tender for the work of underground drainage soon. The work on asphalting road within the city will be undertaken in May. Namma Mane project has been approved for Chikmagalur and 1,200 houses have been sanctioned to the district. Houses will be distributed after constituting a committee under the presidentship of Deputy Commissioner. The vacant sites in CMC limits are filled with wastes.
