Last Updated 04 March 2012, 18:43 IST

Water scarcity has hit Chokkahalli Grameena Vidyalaya in the district. Students, who come from 20 nearby villages do not even have drinking water facility. They get water from home.

Still, the concerned authorities have not taken any action to supply water through alternative sources. Even the plants at the school premises are dying, said a release from the school.

This school had given preference to greenery and had created awareness among students about environment conservation. Thus the school is surrounded by hundreds of tress and plants of different variety. Students had made it a point to wash their hands under the plants in the premises.

Now as there is water scarcity, the students are asked to get drinking water from home. This might even affect sanitation in the school premises.

Lat year, the district administration acted on the demands of students and had supplied drinking water through borewell. This year, students were cautioned about water scarcity and they managed within little water available. But the summer has arrived and water scarcity has become a major problem again. Even the water supply from borewell has been stopped, says secretary of the school, Dattatreya Kulakarni.

“Trees and plants in the school premises are also drying up. Evn though this school has various innovative programmes to conserve environment, nothing can be implemented sue to lack of water. So, water should be supplied to the school and authorities concerned should take immediate action,” he urged.
