Students should have knowledge on democratic set up and the functioning of the Indian Parliament, said zilla panchayat president B Shivappa.
He was speaking after inaugurating the district-level Youth Parliament competitions, organised by the department of Parliamentary Affairs, Zilla Panchayat, and department of public instructions, at St Michael School here recently.
He said the competitions were aimed at strengthening the foundation of democracy by inculcating the qualities of discipline and to create awareness on parliamentary procedures.
Zilla panchayat vice-president Biddanda Usha Devamma, DDPI B H Basavaraju and others were present on the occasion.
