ZP president: civic workers should lead dignified lives

Civic workers who clean the city, have the right to lead a happy life. Unfortunately, they suffer from various problems such as lack of proper houses, said Zilla Panchayat President B A Harish.

He was speaking during a workshop on various facilities meant for civic workers, organised by the district administration, at Kaveri Kalakshetra on Friday.

The ZP chief meanwhile called upon the civic workers to take care of their health.

Deputy Commissioner P I Srividya said that civic workers play a vital role in building a healthy society. Efforts are on to provide sites for civic workers, she added.

Kannada Sahitya Parishat district unit President Lokesh Sagar felt the need to provide accessibility of government schemes for civic workers.

City Municipal Council President Kaveramma Somanna said that civic workers perform their duties, even amidst harsh weather conditions. The people will be able to remain far from diseases owing to the efforts of civic workers, she said.

She also opined that civic workers should become strong financially and should remain away from addictions. They should work by wearing shoes and gloves.

Zilla Panchayat CEO Prashanth Kumar Mishra said that the government has been sending civic workers on foreign tours.

District Health and Family Welfare Officer Dr Anand said that there is an urgent need to put an end to manual scavenging, as many Safai Karmacharis have succumbed to death while working in manholes.

Zilla Panchayat Vice President Lokeshwari Gopal, CMC member Anita Poovaiah, CMC Commissioner B Shubha and Social Welfare Department Deputy Director Mayadevi Galagali were present among others.
