Expenditure Reforms Committee formed

The commission will also advise the government on appropriate strategy  to reduce expenditure on less productive programmes and utilise such consolidated resources in increasing the efficiency of implementation of more productive programmes.

The members of the commission include Mohandas Pai, director (human resources), Infosys; Vivek Murthy, professor, IIM;  Principal Secretary, Finance and Principal Secretary, Planning. IAS Officer C M Shirol will be the member secretary of the commission.

The terms of reference of the commission include to review the efficacy of programmes of major departments and make recommendations for their restructuring and convergence, in order to facilitate improvement in their development effectiveness.
Besides, the commission will also suggest an effective strategy for meeting a reasonable proportion of expenditure on service, through user charges.
