False affidavit: Election officers hold probe

An emergency inquiry was conducted at the Deputy Commissioner’s office, following a false affidavit case lodged by BJP candidate A Manju against JD(S)-Congress coalition candidate Prajwal Revanna, here on Sunday.

The inquiry was conducted by Mysuru Regional Commissioner T K Anil Kumar, Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer Priyanka Mary, in the presence of BJP candidate and his advocate. The officers verified the complaint and the appeal was heard for more than two hours.

Manju had lodged a complaint with the Election Commission alleging that Prajwal Revanna is a shareholder of two companies – Adhikar Ventures Limited and Drone Exports Limited – and has invested money in them. Manju had urged the EC to reject the nomination of Prajwal as he had not mentioned about the companies in which he is a shareholder in the affidavit while submitting the nomination papers.

Representing Manju, his advocate Vijay Kumar said, “Prajwal has submitted a false affidavit, and we have lodged a complaint urging the EC to reject his nomination citing the Supreme Court’s verdict in similar issues. The officers, who conducted an inquiry, have informed that a report would be submitted to the Chief Election Officer,” he explained.

“We have produced all the available details to the officers and hope that the EC will take a fair decision”, Manju said. However, Prajwal clarified that he has resigned from both the companies.
