A 50-year-old farmer committed suicide by lying on a railway track and coming under the wheels of a moving train near the Kadlimatti station of the taluk on Wednesday.
The victim - Rajashekhar Hosamani, a native of Achanur in the taluk - died on the spot. Hosamani owns nine acres of land and had taken loans to the tune of Rs 6 lakh from banks and other sources. The Bagalkot railway police inspected the spot, registered a case and are investigating.
