If all goes well, commercial flights will take wing from the Mysore airport at Mandakalli this Dasara season.

The Jet Airways has given an in-principle approval to a proposal from the civil aviation ministry. “The only thing remaining is confirmation,” C Manjunath, director of the airport, told  Deccan Herald.

He said the private airline was making a preliminary study to reschedule its flights. It may launch the services in October, coinciding with Nada Habba Dasara.

Manjunath said his office had forwarded a proposal to reschedule the arrival and departure of flights. If the departure is scheduled for 7 am, it will help bonafide passengers catch connecting flights in other prominent cities. If the flight makes a return journey in the evening and halts at night at the airport, it would be more helpful, he said.

Quoting an e-mail from Jet Airways, the director said the airline was keen on the morning flight, but was dithering over night parking at the airport. The airline higher-ups are wary of time, he said.

Earlier, when Kingfisher Airlines operated flights from Mysore, the arrival was at 12.30 pm and departure at 1.10 pm.

The response was overwhelming with a minimum of 60 and a maximum of 70 passengers availing the services on week days.

Taking the passenger traffic into cosideration, there could be at least 50 passengers for the morning flights. The figures are based on the feedback received from the representatives of software and multinational companies in the city. The same has been conveyed to Jet Airways, said Manjunath.

Kingfisher Airlines, which launched its services during Dasara in October 2010, withdrew its services after a year. But the full-fledged airport is still catering to chartered flights with a seating capacity of four to 13 twice a week.
