Flood in River Krishna recedes; bridges reopen

 The flood threat in the River Krishna basin in Chikkodi, Raibag and Athani of Belagavi districts has eased with water levels in the river and its tributaries coming down on Friday. Inflow of water from Maharashtra too has decreased.

The discharge of water from Maharashtra to Karnataka came down to 1.50 lakh cusecs. However, 1.33 lakh cusecs of water was released from the Rajapura barrage in Maharashtra.

Danwad-Examba bridge across river Doodhganga in Chikkodi taluk opened for traffic on Friday. Two low-lying bridges in Chikkodi taluk continued to remain under water along with the four in Raibag and Athani taluks. Water levels were receding on the bridges and they are expected to open for traffic in a day.

Meanwhile, rains receded in Belagavi district. While there was drizzle in Belagavi and Khanapur taluks, the other taluks did not receive any rain.

Kodagu district recorded an average of 8.57 mm rain in the last 24 hours. Madikeri taluk has received 20.4 mm rainfall while Somwarpet taluk received 1.07 mm of rains. The water level in Harangi reservoir stood at 2,857.76 feet. Though the monsoon was active in Dakshina Kannada on Thursday night with the region receiving good rainfall, the district did not receive any rain on Friday.

Parts of Shivamogga district received good spell of rains. It rained intermittently for the whole day in Thirthahalli, Hosanagar and Sagar. Heavy rains lashed Hosanagar towards the evening. There was moderate rains in the remaining parts of the district.
