Flood victims pour out their anguish to CM

Last Updated 21 September 2018, 12:30 IST

Hundreds of flood victims, who are sheltered at a gruel centre here, broke down before Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy and requested him to provide them shelter.

The chief minister paid a visit to the flood-hit Kodagu district on Saturday. He assured of providing all necessary assistance from the government. Steps will be taken to repair the national and state highways in the district, he said.

He visited the places where massive landslides have occurred in the recent past. District in-charge minister Sa Ra Mahesh was present.

BJP leaders vented out their ire against the chief minister for returning from Kodagu without attending a meeting convened there, even though there have been immense losses. Union Minister Sadananda Gowda, MP Pratap Simha, MLA K G Bopaiah and MLC Sunil Subramani were waiting at the DC office for him.

Bopaiah said the amount under the Rs 100-crore package had not been released yet. The chief minister did not have the courtesy to gather information from the elected representatives, he said.

Gowda said the central government would provide necessary help, he added.
