Reason: the temporary road built at a cost of Rs 1.5 crore by the district administration in April was washed away due to floods in Tungabhadra river on Sunday. There is a heavy discharge of water into the river following heavy rains in the Tungabhadra river’s upper region.

On Sunday, the temporary road collapsed and also a stretch has been was in floods. The Raichur-Mantralaya and Raichur-Bangalore routes have been cut off. When the temporary road was built in April last, the people in the surrounding villages and the devotees of Mantralaya were very happy.

Now that the road is washed away, the devotees who have to travel to Bangalore by bus are facing trouble. Even though there is train connection to Mantralaya from Raichur very few people use this as the majority of devotees were depending on the buses to reach the pilgrim centre.

Now that the road is washed away, the number of devotees to Mantralaya is likely to come down. The villagers are facing problems as they have been cut off from neighbouring Andhra Pradesh too. The PWD officials and the tahsildar visited the spot on Monday and assessed the damage.
