Flyover on B'lore-Mysore road near Mandya

Last Updated 09 July 2013, 20:23 IST

A seven-kilometre-long flyover will be constructed in Mandya to ease heavy traffic on the Mysore-Bangalore highway.

The statement was made by Ambareesh, who is also the Housing Minister, who said that there are plans to build a flyover from Ummadahalli gate to Siddaiahana Koppalu at an estimated cost of Rs 317 crore. He added that he has already requested the chief minister to earmark funds for the flyover in the budget.

“There were originally plans to construct a ring road or bypass road at Mandya. But, with the region being a green belt with agricultural lands on either side, it will be difficult to acquire lands,” he said.

“Hence, it has been decided to construct a flyover to tackle the dense vehicular traffic on the highway.”

“With hundreds of vehicles plying on the road, sometimes it takes more than an hour to cross Mandya, hence the flyover is the only solution, and the chief minister also understands the problem,” he added.

Ambareesh also recommended that flyover be built at Ramanagar, Channapatna on the Mysore-Bangalore route.

“While these proposals are under consideration, the flyover at Mandya would be taken up on priority and completed within two years,” he added.

Replying to a query, the Minister accepted that there was a need for an alternative road between Bangalore-Mysore, including the NICE corridor as the villages coming on the route would also see development.
