Four-day meet on 'leadership' in Mysore

Conference will have various contests, election of leaders

The conference, scheduled to be held on the Infosys campus in Mysore, will witness contests, election of leaders besides educational sessions by leading trainers.

The conference is being co-hosted by Toastmasters District 82 — India and Sri Lanka — with a combined strength of 225 clubs. The district also has the unique distinction of winning the coveted honour of “the best district in the world” since 2008.

A non-profit movement

Toastmasters International, a non-profit movement, was started by Dr Ralph C Smedley in 1924, in California, with a motto to make “effective oral communication a worldwide reality.”
During the conference, more than 700 Toastmaster delegates will utilise the forum to nurture leadership qualities, self-confidence and improve their communications skills.
The educational sessions lined up for the conference include a presentation by award- winning public speaking expert Craig Valentine. 

Valentine will conduct a session on “How to keep audiences on the edge of their seats.”
Other sessions include “Different strokes for different folks” by Ajith Bopitiya, “Leadership challenges in the multi-generation workplace” by Prof Vasanthi Srinivas, associate professor and chairperson, Centre for Corporate Governance and Citizenship, the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore.

“Let Sparks Fly” by Pavan Soni, innovation evangelist, Wipro Technologies, and “The Magic of Theatre - No Retakes” by Arundhati Raja, artistic director, Jagriti.

‘Best speakers’

The conference will also witness ‘best speakers’ from various divisions of the district compete for top honours in the ‘international speech contest’ and an ‘impromptu speech contest’. More details can be viewed on the website  www.ovation2011.in
