Four of family die as MUV falls into canal near Mysuru

An MUV rolled into a canal, killing four people of the same family near Maratikoppalu village, Bettadapura in the taluk on Monday.

The deceased are Palaniswamy (45), his wife Sanjukumari (38), daughter Poornima (18) and son Likith (16).

According to police, they are from Lakshmipura village, Periyapatna taluk. They had migrated to Napoklu, Kodagu district in search of jobs. Poornima and Likith were physically-challenged and the family members were on their way to Doddakamaravalli post office to get their disability pension when the vehicle veered off the road and rolled into the Harangi canal.

The vehicle drowned in the canal water. The local residents rushed to their rescue, but by the time they lifted the van, all the four were dead. The Bettadapura police have registered a case.
