Gauri murder: Accused Waghmore brought to Belagavi

The Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is probing the murder of Gauri Lankesh brought suspect Parashuram Waghmore for investigations to Belagavi on Wednesday.

The police are probing his connections with locals and those who trained him in firing in the forest areas here.

Waghmore, a native of Sindagi in Vijayapur district, is suspected to have shot dead journalist and writer Gauri Lankesh. During interrogations, he is reported to have confessed to SIT that he was trained in firing in the forest areas of Belagavi.

The SIT brought Waghmore here on Wednesday evening and got him medically tested at the district hospital. He was later taken to undisclosed locations for investigations.

Belagavi Superintendent of Police Sudheerkumar Reddy confirmed to DH, that the SIT had indeed brought Waghmore for investigations here and will leave today.

He said, as SIT was investigating the case, he was not privy to the places of where the accused was taken; or who were all the people who were questioned.
