Govt to develop 9,000 km of State highways

“We are getting financial assistance for the purpose from the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank, in addition to our own budgetary allocation of Rs 4,000 crore,” he told reporters.

He said over 1,400 km of roads were being developed under the Karnataka State Highways Improvement Project-II and a work order had been issued to take up development of a 268-km stretch. Another work order for developing a 615-km stretch would be issued in June.

In the second phase, Udasi said, 1,446 km of roads would be developed at a cost of Rs 3,000 crore. Major repairs of 4,000 km of roads will be taken up at Rs 2,500 crore this year, he added.

Udasi said Portuguese Ambassador Jorge Roza De Oliveira, who met him on Tuesday, had informed him that some Portugal firms were interested in maintaining roads in Karnataka on a partnership basis.
