HC dismisses plea against GU circular on PG exams

The Karnataka High Court has dismissed a petition filed by students of Gulbarga University (GU), challenging the circular issued by the university for conducting post-graduation examinations at district centres.

The court dismissed the petition, saying it could not interfere in such matters. The government counsel submitted that a new circular had been issued on January 7 stating that the number of centres had been increased in the taluks, coming under the jurisdiction of the university.

The petitioners are students of Gulbarga University pursuing Masters of Social Work from various colleges in the district, challenging the circular introducing new method of cluster examination centres at district level, instead of taluk centres.

The petitioner had stated that at the time of establishing the university, the system that was prevailing was to conduct examination at taluk centres, in the respective colleges, to help students from rural areas appear for the exam.

The petitioner, on behalf of the students pursuing the PG course, gave a representation on December 21, 2018 to the vice chancellor and the registrar, requesting them to adopt old method of conducting examination at taluk centres, which was prevailing till 2018.
