JOIN USJustice H V G Ramesh, who heard the matter granted conditional bail to Puttaswamy who was arrested after he was caught red-handed by Lokayukta, while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a police constable seeking voluntary retirement.
Puttaswamy, who was trapped by Lokayukta on November 27 had moved the High Court after the Kolar Sessions Court rejected his bail plea.
In his submission, Puttaswamy said the entire exercise of trapping and raiding his house was aimed at stopping his promotion due shortly.
P P Prakash, attached to the Kolar Town Police, had lodged a complaint that he was asked to take compulsory retirement for extending his medical leave after an enquiry by the department.
Prakash had approached Puttaswamy to pave the way for Voluntary Retirement from Service. The suspended SP allegedly demanded Rs 25,000 for forwarding Prakash’s VRS application. Prakash paid Puttaswamy Rs 25,000 in September, and when his papers were still not cleared, the SP asked for another Rs 10,000 and Prakash lodged a complaint with the Lokayukta.
Meanwhile, counsel for the Lokayukta opposed the bail plea. “Puttaswamy had terrorised the people of Kolar. In the matter of corruption he is a walking ATM and he does not want to spare even his parents in the matter of corruption. If bail is granted to such an accused, a wrong signal will be sent to society," counsel submitted.
