Heavy rain in Gadag, Malaprabha in spate

Heavy rain battered several parts of north Karnataka throwing normal life out of gear on Sunday.

Nargund in Gadag district received heavy rain towards Saturday night.
All the water bodies in the district are filled to the brim while River Malaprabha is in spate near Konnur. The bridge over the river near Konnur was under water. Movement of vehicles was affected for more than 13 hours between Hubballi and Vijayapura on National Highway 213. There was a long queue of vehicles on both sides of the bridge.

Traffic resumed on the stretch by 2 pm on Sunday. Passengers bound for Vijayapura, Solapur and Maharashtra had a tough time. Buses are taking a circuitous route through Ramadurga.

Nidagundi and surrounding places in Bagalkot district received heavy rain since Sunday morning.

Rainwater gushed into houses in low-lying areas and washed away household articles.
The Almatti rain gauge has recorded a rainfall of 35.8 mm in 24 hours.

Hosapete in Ballari district too received heavy rain on Sunday. Rainwater gushed into houses in the low-lying areas. The showers which began at 10.30 am continued till 1.30 am. Residents were compelled to remain indoors due to heavy rain.

It rained heavily in Nargund taluk of Dharwad district.

The Bennihalla, which flows in the taluk was in spate, and the tank water gushed to the nearby fields destroying crops.

Parts of Dakshina Kannada district continued to receive moderate rainfall on Sunday. However, no major damages have been reported. In the last 24 hours, Mangaluru recorded the highest of 53.4 mm rainfall, followed by Belthangady—27.4 mm and Bantwal—15.6 mm. The water-level in streams and rivers in the district has increased.
