Heavy rainfall causes property damage in parts of Karnataka

Various parts of the state received heavy rainfall, causing damage to property. Heavy rain accompanied by lightning and thunder lashed Mysuru region on Thursday night. Several trees were uprooted, electric poles collapsed and rainwater entered low-lying houses.

Following heavy rain, Hosakere lake in Arenahalli in Periyapatna taluk breached and the water overflowed and damaged crops in the fields. The water levels in the lakes increased and a lake in Ravandur in the taluk, which is spread over 100 acres, filled up to 90%. The roof of a house in Mysuru city has collapsed. However, no casualties have been reported.

Similarly, parts of Chamarajanagar, Hassan and Mandya districts received moderate to heavy rainfall.
Rain accompanied by gusty winds lashed Dakshina Kannada in the wee hours of Friday. The rain brought much relief from the scorching sun. The sky remained overcast throughout the day.

A large tree fell on a transformer shed near Bejai Museum in Mangaluru. Many electric poles were damaged. The roof tiles of Sri Somanatheshwara Temple at Devandabetta in Innoli have were also damaged. Three persons suffered injuries when lightning struck a house, at Kashipattana in Belthangady taluk. The injured are Vasu Poojary (62), his daughter Parvathi (36) and grand daughter Vaishnavi (14). The house was completely damaged.

Meanwhile, rains also lashed Madikeri, Virajpet and Napoklu in Kodagu district. Several trees and electric poles were uprooted.
