Hosapete, Kalasa get heavy rainfall

Heavy rain, coupled with gusty winds, has wreaked havoc in Ron and Hosapete. Rain accompanied by strong winds lashed Hosapete town for about two hours on Saturday night. Gusty winds uprooted more than 100 trees and blew away zinc sheet roofs of several houses.

Mareppa (60) of Agasana Lane was killed after a stone slab placed over the zinc sheet roof of his house fell on his head. Rajeshwari (35) of the same area died of cardiac arrest after hearing the loud sound of thunder, said tahsildar H Vishwanath.

A total of 12 electricity poles have been uprooted affecting power supply. Movement of vehicles on several roads of the town were affected. Strong winds accompanied with heavy rain blew away the roof of a school and some houses at Hosur village in Saundatti taluk of Belagavi district.

Similarly, several houses were damaged in Chikkamannur village of Ron taluk in Gadag district following heavy rain. Hubballi received heavy rain for around 15 minutes late on Saturday.

This is the second summer shower for the city. However, Dharwad, just 20 km away from Hubballi, is yet to receive first showers.

Heavy rain accompanied by strong wind and lightning lashed Thirthahalli taluk on Saturday night. Shikaripur, Bhadravathi, Shivamogga and several parts of Shivamogga district received moderate rains on Sunday evening. Heavy rain lashed Halebid, Arsikere and surrounding areas in Hassan district on Saturday night, uprooting coconut trees, arecanut trees and electricity poles.

Hundreds of coconut trees were uprooted at Madihalli, Kyathanakere, Dasagodahalli, Ganguru, Sanehalli and other villages around Halebid. Parts of Arsikere taluk received heavy rains, accompanied by thunder and lightning. Heavy rains lashed Kalasa in Chikkamagaluru district on Sunday.

A 10-year-old boy died after lightning struck him, at Belluri in Narasihmarajapura on Saturday night. The deceased has been identified as Subrahmanya.

Guttal sizzles at 42.9° Celsius
Guttal and Bankapur in Haveri district recorded a maximum temperature of 42.9 degrees Celsius on Sunday, reports DHNS from Haveri. The maximum temperature in Guttal on Saturday was 41.5 degrees Celsius.
