Hyd firm hires NITK student for Rs 42 lakh

The final and pre-final year students of NITK Surathkal have been offered excellent placements/internships by companies that visited the campus since August 2018.

During the phase-I campus recruitment that took place from first week of August to third week of November, more than 80% of the final year BTech students have been placed in reputed organisations from the IT sector, service sector, and product-based and core industries. As many as 190 companies have visited the campus, including big and reputed such as Microsoft, Oracle, Wipro, Uber, Sprinklr, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, Amazon, Samsung, Qualcomm, Dell, KPIT, GE, Honeywell, Philips, McAfee, Bajaj, Tata Motors, L&T, L&TECC, Maruti Suzuki, JSW, Vedanta, Caterpillar, WABCO, UTC Aerospace, John Deere, Hexagon, Fidelity, VISA, Deloitte, Axis Bank, Wells Fargo, HSBC, Deutche Bank and CITI
Bank.

Nearly all students from the Computer Science and Information Technology branches have been placed with an average annual package of Rs 18 lakh. Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical and Mining branches have seen about 82-85% of the students being placed. In the case of Chemical Engineering, this number is around 75%.

The average package for all the nine BTech branches is around Rs 9.5 lakh and the highest domestic package is Rs 42 lakh per annum offered by DE Shaw from Hyderabad. The Career Development Centre (CDC) is confident of nearly 100% placements for its BTech students.

For phase II (January–May 2019), companies for Civil and Metallurgy are lined up. In addition, public sector companies like BEML, Indian OIL, GAIL, BEL, HPCL, BPCL, and Coal India will be visiting the campus and these have been offered Super Dream status. This year the number of interns recruited from pre-final year B Tech is nearly 1.5 times that of last year with about 280-300 students already getting internship offers. The interns have got monthly stipend as high as Rs 1 lakh, with an average of Rs 35,000.

A significant increase in Pre Placement Offers (PPOs) has also been seen this year. About 150 students were offered PPOs by reputed companies where these students underwent two months’ internship during May-July 2018.

The Master of Computer Applications (MCA) programme has also seen a quantum leap in placements and already about 80% of the students have been placed.
