Illicit liquor, vehicles seized by Excise Dept

Cracking down on illegal sale and distribution of liquor and beer across Karnataka, the vigilance team of the Excise department has recovered goods and vehicles worth Rs 1.47 crore in the last eight months.

Raiding several hideouts in various districts, the Excise sleuths have not only registered 54 cases but also arrested 27 people and seized 23 vehicles allegedly involved in illegal transportation of liquor.

According to the statement by S L Rajendra Prasad, Joint Commissioner, State Excise Vigilance Wing, the raids were carried out between July 2018 and February 2019. “A total of 5,957.49 litres of Goa liquor, another 5,993.0 litres of IML, 2,828.74 litres of beer and 243.50 litres of Goa beer has been seized,” the release said.

The officials have also seized 836.50 litres of wine and recovered 5.24 kg of ganja. “Our officials have also destroyed 170.65 kg of cannabis plants. This apart, 19 litres Neera and 275 litres of country liquor have also been recovered,” the release said. According to the sleuths, the value of the recovered items includes 1.47 cr and investigation is under progress in the cases.
