Illegal liquor worth Rs 1.3 cr seized in separate raids

The election vigilance squad on Wednesday seized illegal liquor worth Rs 1.3 crore in two separate raids in Bagalkot and Bidar Lok Sabha constituencies.

The election officials, following a tip-off, intercepted a lorry transporting liquor worth Rs 76 lakh without permission, at Chikkanaragund-Aachamatti Cross check post under Bagalkot Lok Sabha segment. The vigilance officials seized the liquor and the lorry worth Rs 15 lakh, Deputy Commissioner, also the Election Officer, M G Hiremath told DH.

The liquor was being transported to Gokak from Hassan. The Nargund Town police have registered a case.

In another seizure, the Excise officials seized liquor, worth Rs 54 lakh, being transported in two pickup vehicles without the transit permits at Chandkapur check post in Basavakalyan taluk of Bidar district.

The Excise officials, led by Deputy Commissioner, B Shivaprasad, conducted a total of 57 raids at various places in the district between March 10 and 13, and have taken 21 persons into their custody. The officials seized 1,181.57 litres of liquor, which includes 900 litres of foreign liquor, and 124.7 litres of beer. They also confiscated three goods vehicles and two two-wheelers.

Rs 20L cash seized

The model code squad has seized Rs 20 lakh cash being carried by three persons at Hubballi Airport on Thursday, reports DHNS.
