'Kanasu' film director dies in waterfall shoot

Santosh Shetty, director of the Kannada film 'Kanasu' who had come for a drone shoot to the Ermai waterfall with three others, died in an accident on Wednesday.

Police said that Santosh slipped and fell into the waterfall during the shoot and his companion Preetham called the fire and emergency services for help.

Fire services personnel who rushed to the spot, carried out search and rescue, and fished Santosh's body out of the water. The director's body has been shifted to Belthangdy.

Desilting drains

Following torrential rains that lashed Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts resulting in flooding of Mangaluru and other cities on Tuesday, desilting storm drains and other operations began early on Wednesday.

DK Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil has issued orders to desilt storm drains and clear them of encroachments immediately. As many as 50 houses in Mangaluru city and 12 in Bantwal were completely destroyed in Tuesday's downpour. MP Nalin Kumar Kateel and MLA D Vedvyas Kamat visited affected areas on Wednesday morning.

Relief given

DC Senthil has issued Rs 5 lakh cheque each, as relief to the families of Mohini and Mukta Bai who were killed in the devastating rain on Tuesday.

Though the skies cleared up briefly in the morning hours, dark clouds are hovering over the city since noon, threatening a repeat of Tuesday's downpour.
