Kannada study chair at JNU

The State government has decided to establish a Kannada language chair in Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. A sum of Rs 43 lakh was released on November 6 in this regard for the current year.

Official sources in the Kannada and Culture Department said there was a demand for having a Kannada chair at the prestigious JNU. Many other regional languages already have study chairs at the university.

Sources said it has been decided to release Rs 43 lakh per annum for the next five years so that studies pertaining to Kannada could be taken up. A director has to be appointed, while the university will organise for visiting faculty. There will be no conventional courses. However, research activities would be encouraged, sources said.
