Speaking to reporters during a visit to the City on Wednesday to discuss with officials about recovering government land, he said that even the forest land had been encroached in the district. Officials have been told that documents relating to encroached land should be collected, verified and action should be taken against the guilty, he said.

Officials will visit the different taluks and inspect the encroachments, Balasubramanian said. Government land has been encroached on the outskirts of Chikkaballapur, around the Bangalore International Airport, and notices have been issued to the encroachers. Cases will be registered under Land Revenue Act, Section 192 (A), he said.

Steps would be taken towards deciding cases which are in court, he said, and added that special lawyers would be appointed to help get stay orders vacated in several other cases.

28,300 acres in Kolar

More than 28,300 acres of government land has been encroached upon in Kolar district, said Government Land Protection Task Force Chairman V Balasubramanian.

Addressing the mediapersons here on Wednesday he said that the district administration has been given one year time to clear encroachment.

The task force has not taken any  measures to clear encroachment for the past one year. Grazing land, tanks, canals have been encroached upon by some local bodies by producing fake documents.

The local bodies have also registered community forest areas. However, the revenue department has failed to take any action in this regard, the officer stated.

The officer said of the 28 complaints related to encroachment the district administration has been able to resolve only seven complaints.

Under Land Revenue Act Section (192 ‘A’) there is provision to impose punishment of three years imprisonment on those who have encroached upon government land and those who have helped in the process. However, no such action has been taken so far, Balasubramanian said.

Tahsildar has been directed to issue notice to the officers involved in encroachment, the Chairman added.

The task force will take  special interest to clear encroached land in the district. A meeting will be convened within couple of month to review the encroachment clearance progress, Chairman said.

Task force member G N Nayak, Deputy Commissioner Manojkumar, Meena, Additional Deputy Commissioner N Babanna, Assistant Commissioner R S Peddappaiah, Tahsildar S M Mangala and other officers were present on the occasion.
