JOIN USThe schools reopen today and in an interview to Deccan Herald DDPI Mantelingachar spoke about various programmes planned by the department for this academic year.
Shala Prarambhothsava
The concept of Shala Prarambhotsava is to provide a festival like atmosphere for children on the first day of their academic year in the new classroom. Distribution of uniform, text books, sweets and activities like cleanliness of the school, bridge course etc will start from toady onwards. It is the wish and order of our Commissioner to see to it that students and teachers participate in learning activities. Surprise visit teams have been formed to see to it that the order is implemented effectively.
‘Akshara dasoha’
In certain places we have found that the prescribed quantity of food stuff are not being used. Taluk level committees with ZP CEO, DDPI, Education Officers, Taluk Akshara Dasoha Assistant Director, Block Education Officers, BRP, CRP and Health Department Health Educators has been formed to supervise Akshara dasoha project.
Directions have been made that children must be generously fed on green leafy vegetables under Akshara dasoha and nutrition tablets must be given to the children not through the cooks but through the class teachers of respective classes.
Closure of schools
It is true that several schools are being closed due to lack of students. A total of 404 teachers have been transferred to different places from the district due to this reason. Of these, 276 have been transferred to other places. Due to this move, Government has saved over Rs 3 crore. In the district there are over 100 schools which have less then 5 students each. These schools will be shifted. When the school is closed we see to it that the students studying in the schools are sent to the nearby schools. These students are provided Rs 300 per month for conveyance.
SSLC results this year
Last year the district stood at 21st place in the state and this year it has graduated to 16th place, which is a huge gallop. A workshop has been organised for head teachers of all the schools in July and a special workshop will be organised to impart teaching techniques for Maths, Science and English.
‘Nali-Kali’ programme
From this academic year onwards the students of first and second standard will not have text books. They will only be given note books and teachers trained under Nali-Kali programme will conduct classes for them. The aim is to make learning a happy and a natural process.Over 4,000 teachers and officers have been trained under this programme. The teachers will attend the review meeting at the cluster level every month. Karnataka is the only state to implement such a programme, hence it is a special programme.
