With the government announcing to stop the Aadhar card registration process which had started with a bang, the registration process has completely stopped in Kodagu district.

The government had started Aadhar registration in order to give identity to all the citizens of India and the State government too had joined its hands in the process.

The registration process had begun in various parts of Kodagu district including Madikeri, Kushalnagar and Virajpet in last August. But with the State government’s e-governance department ordering to stop the registration process, the process has been halted from last week.

The fact that thousands of crores of rupees worth project witnessing the halt in five months is disappointing.  The tussle between the Unique Identification Authority of India and the Home Ministry has resulted in the process of stopping the project all of a sudden.

The district administration has ordered for stopping the process as per the direction of the State government which was appealed by the UIDAI to stop the procedure. In the letter forwarded by the government to the district administration, there is no detail as to when the process would re-start.

With majority of the people residing in villages, several of them have failed to register for UID. According to an estimation, out of 5.5 lakh population in Kodagu district, only 10 per cent of them have registered for UID so far.
