'Anthropological Survey of India should visit Kodagu'

Demand: CNC-linguistic minority tag, Yaravas-primitive status

Codava National Council (CNC) has demanded the Anthropological Survey of India, which is listing the tribal communities through in depth study, to visit Kodagu at the earliest, study the Kodava culture and make recommendation for declaration of Kodavas as linguistic minority tribal community at the earliest.

Addressing a news conference on Thursday, Codava National Council President N U Nachappa said that the demand has been forwarded to the Anthropological Survey of India, Kolkata Director K K Mishra through the Deputy Commissioner in the form of a memorandum.

Informing that struggles and movements demanding declaration of Kodavas as linguistic minority tribes will continue, he said that Codava National Council like every year will stage a satyagraha at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on Kannada Rajyotsava even this year.

“The struggle for Kodavaland will be 21 year old this year. In this regard Kodava National Day will be observed on November 24 at Madikeri Gandhi Maidan,” he said adding that the Council will organise a Jata in December to press for its various demand.
