'Banks facing threat after UPA came to power'

Speaking at the Vijaya Bank Employees Federation Hassan zonal level second convention at Birur, he said that their jobs are under threat owing to merger and privatisation. At present government share in the nationalised banks, is 73 per cent. After the privatisation, it will be 51:49.

Vijaya Bank Employees Federation General Secretary K Muddanna Shetty said the V R S system introduced in 2000 led to the shortage of staff in banks. Instead of 25 to 30 personnel, three to four personnel are managing the show.

He said owing to the dedicated service of the bank employees, the business of Vijaya Bank has crossed Rs 1.05 lakh crore.

Bank Administrative Body Member Shantharam Shetty said that banks should be opened in rural areas and should give emphasis to agriculture.

Sudhakar Shetty, Sathyanarayana Swamy, Paramashivaiah, Suresh Kamath also spoke. Retired employees were felicitated on the occasion. Federation members from Hassan, Chikmagalur, Madikeri, Bangalore took part in the convention.
