The BJP will stage a protest against state government’s failure in tackling the problems in the district, at Madikeri on February 20, said MLA K G Bopaiah.

Briefing mediapersons here on Friday, he said that a protest march will be taken out from General Thimmaiah Circle to the DC’s office.

“The state government has no control over officials. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is shielding corrupt ministers and officials and has no moral right to continue in office.”

Bopaiah said that the Forest department is planting the saplings of acacia and eucalyptus which are hazardous to environment. We had urged the government in the Assembly to take necessary action to curb indiscriminate planting of acacia and euclayptus trees. But the Forest personnel continue to plant the trees that are not conducive to ecology.”

“District Minister M R Seetharam had promised to allot 10 guntas of land to the displaced tribals at Diddalli in Channayyanakote of Virajpet taluk. However, now he has taken a U-turn stating that if the land in forest area allotted to tribals, he would land in jail. If there was any legal hurdle in allotting land for the displaced tribals at Diddalli, then the government should find a solution to it,” Bopaiah said.

The MLA said that constructing a cricket stadium on Palemadu paisari in Hoddur will benefit the local talent in the district. The locals are demanding two acres of land for crematorium at the land identified for cricket stadium. The authorities should allot an alternative land for crematorium.

MLC M P Sunil Subramani said that the infighting in Congress party is affecting the functioning of the state government. He said that the district minister has failed to deliver.

Former MLC S G Medappa said though the entire district has been declared as drought-hit, the farmers are yet to get any compensation. Water crisis has hit coffee production as well.
