Civic bodies skip library tax to the tune of Rs 52 cr

Locals lack enthusiasm regarding library facility, say Hondakeri

He was speaking to reporters during his visit to the district library in Kolar on Wednesday. These institutions collect library tax from the public and divert the amount to other purposes, he alleged. 

Hence, the development of libraries is hampered.

Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike itself has to clear due amount of Rs 40 crore.

Many other district administrations have to pay dues of Rs 12 crore towards library tax, he said.

The department is willing to provide library facility for each ward if site/building for the same is provided.

However he regretted lack of enthusiasm among the local residents regarding the library facility.

Regularisation

The Finance Department has rejected the department’s proposal to regularise the service of the library supervisors, the director said.
