Coffee land gears up for Kodagu Utsav

The preparations for Kodagu Utsav is going on in full swing. A meeting was convened under presidentship of Addanda Karyappa to discuss the cultural programmes to be staged on May 28 and 29.

The meeting discussed the joint programmes to be put up by Vedike Samiti headed by Chidvilas and Prachar Samiti headed by H T Anil.

The meet decided to have programmes simultaneously at two stages rather than three. Zilla Panchayat Members Kanthi Bellyappa, Bollamma Nanaiah, Prathyu, Mani Nanjappa, Kodava Sahithya Academy President Rani Machaiah, Town Municipal Council Member Muneer Ahmed among others made many valuable suggestions.

The meet decided to provide more importance to programmes showcasing the Kodava culture. Hence, it was resolved to provide about 90 per cent opportunity to local cultural teams and give 10 per cent programmes to teams from other places. The applications from teams will be invited through media.

Formation of sub committees to look after the programmes happening on two stages, division of work among members and bringing the programme to notice of the people by different means were some of the decisions taken at the meet.

A meeting was held under the president of Kodagu Utsav Vedike Samiti President G Chidvilas at Kote hale on Sunday. This meeting decided to put up portals to introduce great achievers of various field who are from Kodagu.

Raja Seat will have ‘Kalavidara Dwara’ (artists portal), Market road will have ‘Dharmika Samanvayathe Dwara’ (Communal harmony portal), Indira Gandhi Road will have portal of political achievers, private bus stand will have sports achievers portal, Thimmaiah circle will have soldiers portal, DCC bank will have agricultural/cultural achievers portal.

Food fest, consumer fair, play fair for children at police maidan will be held, said Chidvilas.
The main stage at Gandhi Maidan and Kaveri Kalakshethra stage will be designed by prominent artistes.

Prachar Samiti President H T Anil said that photos of Kodagu must be displayed during the utsav.

Applications invited

Applications have been invited from cultural troupes interested in staging programmes during Kodagu Utsav. Troupes can send in applications for dance ballet, dance on poems written by Kodava poets, light music, instrumental music, Kodava dance forms, classical dance forms, folkdance, folk songs and dramas.Teams can send in applications for any artform other than the above mentioned list.

The applicants will have to send in their applications along with photograph and video of their presentation to Co-cultural Committee, Kodagu Utsav, Kannada and Culture Department, Kote premises, Madikeri. The applications must reach before May 13. Teams will be finalised by Culture Committee.
