'Cong govts in State delayed railway line works between K'buragi-Bidar'

Union Minister for Railways Piyush Goyal hit back at Congress government in State saying that it was during successive Congress governments in the State the much awaited Kalaburagi-Bidar railway line works were delayed. The project received much needed
boost when National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government came to power at the Centre, he said.

Speaking to media persons at the party office in Bidar on Sunday, Goyal said, when Congress was in power in the State they failed to offer land or extend necessary support to complete the project in scheduled time. When the BJP government came to power in the State it decided to share the project cost on 50:50 basis and extend land free of cost to the project.

Actual work on the project was started in 1999 when Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee was in power at the Centre.

Moreover, ever since Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to power financial outlay for railway projects initiated in Karnataka was increased by five fold. In 2014-15 Rs 783 crore was sanctioned, and in 2015-16 Rs 1,780 crore was sanctioned.

During 2016-17 it was increased to Rs 2,500 crore and in 2017-18 Rs 3,170 crore was sanctioned to the State, Goyal stressed.

Civil works between Khanapur and Humanabad part was completed in 2013 but what stopped them from finishing the remaining works.

It indicated the inefficiency of the then UPA II government and the then railways minister Mallikarjun Kharge. But the NDA government gave top priority for the project and completed the work, Goyal asserted.

Asked about extending bullet train project to southern cities, Goyal replied that the ministry taken up techno economic feasibility study for bullet train project in 10,000 km length. Based on the study more number of cities would be included under the connectivity.
